Hi all. I am a huge nonfiction reader and I read a lot of kind of sad books as a result. I also read a lot of interesting books on neuroscience and psychology as they are two personal passions. But with the bombardment of negativity in the news & my recommended feed on YouTube, I went to read a book but the two I’m reading are ‘Men Who Hate Women’ by Laura Bates & ‘Jesus and John Wayne: how evangelicals corrupted faith and fractured a nation’ by Kristin Kobs Du Mez & realized… while I like learning and even about hard topics. I consume a lot of negative media.
So here I am
I’m looking for a fiction recommendation.
I have no interest in purely romance or dark romance novels, romantic sub plots are fine.
I love horror & horror is almost exclusively what I pick up when I read fiction but I don’t know if that’s necessarily positive?
(Please don’t come for me) but I like Charles Bukowski
I am curious if there’s good mysteries
Sci-fi is an option.
Some fiction I adored to maybe give you an idea of a good recommendation:
John dies at the end
Any and all Junji Ito (not a huge manga reader tho, I’m picky)
Lock every door – Riley Sager
The sundown motel (really liked this one, kind of a thriller!) – Simone St James
Edgar Allen Poes stories and poems
Home before Dark – Riley Sager
Hell House – Richard M
I think that’s literally all I have read fiction wise in the last 3 or 4 years. SOS
