I’ve always been more of a movie guy, but lately I’ve been wanting to get into reading more. I do read a bit here on Reddit and enjoy some manga, but I’d like to dive deeper into books.
I’m really into sci fi. I’m a big fan of Nolan’s films and I absolutely loved Denis Villeneuve’s work on Blade Runner 2049 and Dune. I might read the Dune books someday, but for now I’m looking for something new. I also enjoy shows like Black Mirror and Stargate.
It doesn’t have to be sci fi though. I’m mainly looking for something really captivating, a story that pulls you in from the start and keeps you turning pages, wanting more.
Any recommendations?

The Vorkosigan Saga Lois McMaster Bujold,
Robert Charles Wilson’s Spin – this is the start of a trilogy, but I think it’s perfectly fine on its own. If you dig it you can keep going
Phillip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep – this is the book Blade Runner is based on, but it’s pretty different from the film
Arthur C. Clarke’s Rondezvous with Rama – a mysterious spaceship enters the solar system and astronauts check it out. Stay away from the sequels, Clark didn’t write them and in my opinion they are awful.
These are older books and may be out of print, but they shouldn’t be hard for you to find.
Heart of the Comet by Gregory Benford and David Brin
Growing Up Weightless by John M. Ford
Falcon by Emma Bull
Bloom by Wil McCarthy
Omnitopia Dawn by Diane Duane; also her Harbinger trilogy, which are tie-in novels but completely readable independently.
