I read Blood Meridian ages ago and thought it was brilliant. Then I read The Road and No Country for Old Men and thought they were pretty mediocre.
After that I was happy to just not bother with more and leave Blood Meridian as The Good One. But recently, despite the huge number of other books I already have to read, I've been feeling like maybe I should give him a last shot.
So, if I were to read another McCarthy, where should I go from there? Does he have a book that would suit someone with this particular history? Thanks in advance

Try Suttree! Much less blood, but the writing is just as beautiful. I prefer his pre-All the Pretty Horses books (I DNF The Crossing), and Suttree is my favorite of them.
It’s been years since I read any Cormac McCarthy but I remember *The Road* being pretty good despite the trademark McCarthy bleakness.
The Road is a master peice. I preferred it to Blood Meridian.
Maybe All The Pretty Horses? What did you like about Blood Meridian that you didn’t get from the others?
Must disagree about both The Road and No Country…….
Mate, if you thought The Road was mediocre, I can’t help you.
