I recently finished Shoe Dog (The Nike founder Phil Knight's memoir; 2016), which was surprisingly excellent, and Making It So, actor Patrick Stewart's memoir (2023), which was very good. Both were written by people in their late 70s/80s, Knight being born in 1938 and Stewart in 1940. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest another memoir (i) by someone born in this same period of approx. 1940; or (ii) written when the author was in his/her 70s/80s; (iii) ideally, satisfying both of these conditions! A set of three such books will be especially satisfying to read.

I typed "memoirs of people born in the 1940s" and its generally mediocre AI response that clutters the top of the list suggested, "Elsa Morante: An Italian writer born in 1912 (she was a few years old before the 1940s), Morante wrote novels that explored the lives of women and social class in Italy." An almost comically awful response!
