Sara Stridsberg (Swedish author): The Antarctica of Love. A tough but lyrical read about violence and the impossibility of escape.

My two five star reads of the year are what I call “Dad” books. These are definitely older books nothing published recently which is also the majority of my reading:
The Spy Who Came in from The Cold (classic spy novel where a lot of tropes from later spy books and movies come from)
Fatherland (alternative timeline/speculative history. Just extremely well plotted and executed)

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. I started them just after New Years on audiobook, and had to get the hardcovers for my shelf. I haven’t laughed so hard at an audiobook that I had to pull over during rush hour traffic to get control over myself before. Book 8 is expected to drop later this year or early 2026.
I will say, this was my first foray into LitRPG, and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m a Malazan/WoT/Valdemar/LoisMcMasterBujold (etc) fan, so the dynamics are a far cry from what I’m used to. But I have eagerly joined the Princess Posse (I’m actually a secret member of the Donut Holes, but I don’t want to offend the Princess).
