My favorite non-fiction books to read are medical ones, and Siddhartha Mukherjee has been my favorite author in this genre. I want more books at this level. Most of the books that get suggested in this vein are much more popular science books like The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, which was a great book, but not quite what I was looking for.

I'm looking for books that will teach me the science of medicine (nursing student, so I do have some foundation) without reading a textbook. Thanks!

Nick Lane’s and Philip Ball’s books are also pop-science, but at a higher level (esp. Ball). Both are excellent writers. I’d plug my own book, but I don’t know if that’s acceptable!
