Okay so Im a 17 year old girl who loves history and fiction. I haven’t read too much i guess. I have read all the attack on titan mangas, and i have dozens of Junji ito stories, so i like drama and horror. I also loved blood on the tracks. I loved blood on the Tracks mainly because of how it deals with childhood trauma and complex family dynamics. Besides manga i absolutely loved The Testaments and The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood. I like books with dark and complex themes. Things like corrupt governments, family trauma, a little bit of horror, and i’m a big fan of poetic and figurative speech when writing as i also enjoy spoken word and poetry. I really want a decent book to read during summer, and i’m not looking to read any manga. I can’t describe exactly what kind of book I like, but I think The testaments and Blood on the Tracks are right in my ally. I dont like anything super duper fictional and fantasy like, for example Harry potter, LOTR, ect. I am also open to autobiographies, specifically about someone with a dark past and or childhood, someone with a hard life but has learned to live with it, something like that. Please help!!

How about corrupt cops?
Blood and the Badge by Michael Cannell is about two NYPD detectives who were moonlighting as enforcers for the NY mob and how the feds used RICO to finally take the mafia down
And it’s a true story.
One of the two cops had a bit part in Goodfellas
Under the Same Stars by Libba Bray (historical fiction)
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy (memoir)
I have two wildly different suggestions: I Am The Cheese by Robert Cormier and 100 Years of Solitude by Gabrielle Garcia Marquez.
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote
The Lincoln Highway
The Silo series by Hugh Howey, government corruption at it’s finest.
