Hello!! I recently discovered a passion for incredibly in-depth non-fiction after writing an essay on the historical and contemporary commodification of the unicorn and have been desperate for more books on such niche topics.
so far I've greatly enjoyed "The natural history of unicorns", "the reality, mythology, and fantasies of unicorns", "folktales and reality" and "essence and alchemy: a natural history of perfume". And I'm also interested in the topics of Chinese history, pirates, art history (mostly from specific topics, like the rococo period, art noveau, art deco, frank lloyd wright, etc), mythology, archeology (specifically egyptian scarabs for some reason?), and any other topics you may be personally passionate about (take this as an opportunity to infodump if you desire!).
I also should specify I'm not looking for broad entry-level books. I'd prefer ones that focus in-depth on a specific niche in the subject, rather than briefly canvassing a wider topic. Doing half of the research to make sense of things is part of the fun for me! I'm very excited to get back into reading and would adore any recommendations at all, the more passion the better.
