I want to preface by saying I didn't actually like The Secret History, but I kept reading because of the writing style, setting, and themes. It's the most 3/5 book I've read, but the author had a way of weaving the pictures that I couldn't put it down. Now I'm imagining what it would be like if there was writing like that but for an actually interesting set characters / a good mystery.
The main mystery authors I've enjoyed are Agatha Christie and Keigo Higashino for reference. It can be a whodunnit, howdunnit, whydunnit, just something compelling, dark, and intricate.
