dissertation recs?

hi all,
i have to submit a dissertation proposal within the next week or so (english lit BA), and i think i want to write about the brain + violence in literature. maybe childhood + violence +brain, maybe masculinity + violence + brain.

currently looking at books like clockwork orange, the pillowman, the wasp factory.

if anyone has any recommendations for books – mainly thinking psychological fiction – with these topics please let me know!
