There's no shortage of historical novels covering the lives of the (in)famous Rodrigo, Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia and their respective courts and entourages, but surprisingly few about the people who succeeded them, eg from around 1503 to the sack of Rome in 1527.
This was an era replete with many fascinating people and interesting events, such as wars, court intrigue, grand love affairs, and one of the most catastrophic events of the Renaissance (the destruction of the city of Rome no less!) so it's surprising that there's such a dearth of material focusing on it.
Any recommendations you can provide would be much appreciated!
