Any Stephen King books. His writing and his prose are very detailed but very easy to understand and really hooks you in. I would recommend Misery or Dolores Claiborne

    2. My typical list:

      1. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Very short with a very good story the genre is comedy/sci-fi so I can see why that would make people skeptical but I really liked it and it’s a crowd pleaser to even non-readers

      2. The Hobbit
If you’re looking for a book to get into reading this is THE go to. I can’t speak to the length but it’s considered a kids book in terms of difficulty and people love it. Also a great segue to LOTR (which are great) but I can’t recommend those to get back into reading

      3. Pretty much any Kurt Vonnegut
His books are very good and tend to be on the shorter side. He’s also a more modern author so he’s pretty easy to read.

      4. Giovanni’s Room
Very good story and veryyyyy short

      5. The Westing Game
A kids book in terms of difficulty but just fun

I will say it’s an older book so some language is outdated

A bit longer but are very good and still easy reads
      – A tree grows in Brooklyn
      – The Martian
      – A man called Ove (if you want emotional)
      – Station Eleven
      – Dark Matter

Any of Charles Portis’s books. My favorites are Great ngos, and The Dog of the South. There is no dog in The Dog of the South so not to worry if you are averse to books in which a dog might die.
