i just finished Sugar Land by Tammy Lynne Stoner. it was set in, well, Sugar Land, TX and the story spanned from 1923-1968. it follows the life of a lesbian woman who battles with sexuality, faith, death of loved ones, and all the trials and tribulations throughout her life as a southern woman.

i’m looking for something similar; i am a Texan so i think the historic Texas aspect really drew me in. there was something so special about the depth the author dove into that made me feel like i was reading my great great grandmothers diary.

    any recs?

Wallace Stegner – either his Pulitzer winner Angle of Repose or alternatively his wonderful The Big Rock Candy Mountain.

More classically, East of Eden (Steinbeck) or Lonesome Dove (McMurtry).

    2. October In The Earth (Olivia Hawker)

      Doll-baby (Laura Lane McNeal)

They aren’t specifically Texas based, but they are women from the south trying to figure out who they are. I thought they were both great reads

Memphis by Tara M Stringfellow may be interesting to you – it’s about a female artist who starts investigating her family history over three generations.
