Can I get a suggestion on good fantasy books? Never read the genre
I usually read mystery and thriller type books. I have never dipped into the fantasy genre but I want to. I want to jump into something excellent. All recommendations are appreciated. Thank you.
A Discovery of Witches. Has some thriller/mystery elements with figuring out the book but a good intro to fantasy since it’s our world but with vampires, witches, and demons. Also only 3 books – many fantasy series can be long (which I love).

Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony. How death, time, Nature etc work with him as taking thier place

*The Wheel of Time* by Robert Jordan: classic epic fantasy, excellent characters and story. Very long series, that might be a positive or negative for you.
*The Mistborn Trilogy* by Brandon Sanderson: a more ‘modern’ take on fantasy. Very unique take on “magic”, great story. If you like it, Sanderson has tons of excellent series that are just as good. I think that Mistborn is a great starting point.
*Dungeon Crawler Carl* by Matt Dinniman: a very modern take on fantasy literature. Extremely funny while also being tragic and suspenseful. Some of the best character work I’ve ever seen from an author. It sounds… unhinged, but trust me it’s worth trying.

The Tainted Cup by Robert Bennett Jackson could be a good entry point. Fantasy/Mystery blend in a bio punk setting (think biological modifications to enhance different senses), features a Sherlock/watson style duo. It’s the first in a new series (book 2 is out) but can be enjoyed as a standalone
If you dig the British sense of humor & satire, you could check out the Discworld City Watch books by Terry Pratchett, recommend starting with Guards! guards!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I really enjoyed the cruel prince series! It’s fantasy, kind of political fantasy, with a romance subplot (if you’re into that at all). I thought it was very clever and interesting.
Some others that I also loved:
Vicious (dark academia fantasy)
Poppy War Trilogy (military fantasy, TW some very heavy graphic themes)
The atlas six (dark-ish academia fantasy)
kraacken on
spellmonger series, codex alera, any brandon sanderson (especially stormlight archive)
I will say most of the fantasy you’ll get recommended is going to be a bit slower paced than mystery/thriller. It just takes time to explore a world and develop a setting.
The City Watch books in Terry Pratchett’s *Discworld* might be a good blend of mystery and fantasy if you want to dip your toe in! The first one is *Guards! Guards!*
