Hi, I just finished Earthlings by Sayaka Murata and although it was an intense and challenging read, it made me want to read more books that are subversive, radical and difficult. I started another book today and it just felt way too dull and slow after reading Earthlings.
To provide some context for, other books I've read with a similar vibe that I liked include: Han Kang's The Vegetarian, Suzuki's Terminal Boredom, McBride's A Girl is a Half Formed Thing, and Anna Kavan's Ice. I typically like unusual or unexpected storylines and solitary or outcasted characters.
tldr: I'm looking for books that combine surrealism/magic-realism/weirdness with intensity, emotion, depth, complexity, and challenging themes.
