I am atheist but am interested to learn about the bible events in the context is Middle Eastern history. Obviously most of the places and people are real and I would love to learn more about them. If there is an analysis available to show how events of the times co-incided with the events or stories of the Bible – that would be even more fascinating. Thank you!

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but Who Wrote the Bible? by Richard Elliott Friedman is a scholarly but still readable study of who wrote the Old Testament. There’s some information about the historical context in which the different parts were written, but it’s mostly focused on authorship.
