    1. The institute, the shining, Carrie, and Misery are my favs of his in no particular order

    2. My two favorites are Pet Semetary and Night Shift, his first short story collection.

    3. Joyland was my first, on a recommendation from a SK lover. Not too scary/horrifying and a relatively short read, which I liked for an intro to his style.

I love The Shining so much. Misery was the most genuinely terrifying one I’ve read. I’d start with his older classics!

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but the Bachman books are usually shorter and faster paced, so for a first dip of the toes into the pool of King, that would be my recommendation. The Long Walk was my personal favorite

    6. I’ve read them all and I recommend starting with 11/22/63 if you aren’t already a horror reader and Pet Sematary if you are already a horror reader.

      Carrie
It’s his first. It’s an easy book to read and I think we can all relate to wanting to be popular and/or getting revenge on our bullies.
Not his best but the best place to start.
Christine was written for the 80’s and we liked it but I don’t think it aged well best to skip.

The Green Mile! It wasn’t the first Stephen King book I read, but it was the first one that grabbed me and got me hooked right away. I’ve been a fan ever since.

The Shining and Salems Lot are also very good introductions to Stephen King.

    9. If you’re not reading one of the anthologies, I’d say Cell, actually. It’s a VERY different kind of horror, and easily the most original take on a zombie apocalypse I’ve ever seen

    10. The Stand might be my favorite book ever. But it’s longgggg. Starting out- Misery, The Shining, or Carrie
