HELP I've tried to read the lord of the rings literally four times. I have NEVER tried to read a book for so long and simply. not be able to get through it??? I've read Jane Austen with no issues–I've read almost EVERY book possible with no issues and fantasy is even my favourite genre so I have no idea why I can't get through it. 😭😭😭 it's not really a lack of understanding cause I know exactly what's going on but I am simply n o t i n v e s t e d. it's just so unmemorableeee like I think I got to the second book on my last attempt and just. FORGOT where I was and I don't even remember what happened SOBS
I think part of the issue is that my poor library resetted my spot in the book and I doubt I remember where I was–should I wait a few years and reconvene or something? 😭😭😭 or idk if you have any tricks do tell cause I need one. Or two. Or half a dozen

AHA YIPPEEEEE IT POSTED I FINALLY HAVE ENOGUH KARMA
You’ve read almost every book possible with no issues? Really?
Don’t. Read something you like.
Why is it so important to you to finish a particular book you’re not enjoying reading? I suspect this sounds like sarcasm so I want to be clear that it is not and I am genuinely curious. I say that as someone for whom this is quite likely my favorite book.
Why do you want to read it so badly if you’ve tried and you’re not enjoying it? It’s perfectly fine to just say the book isn’t for you. Or, as you say, you could set it aside and come back in a few years. I first tried to read the series in my teens and didn’t get into it then. I later read it in my thirties and loved it. But on the other hand, I’ve made three attempts to read The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and have decided not to try again. I’m glad other people love it but it’s just not for me.
Why even bother though? I say this as someone who has read Lord of the Rings a dozen times and would easily call it my favorite book. And it’s one thing when people get a little stumped by the beginning – the first few chapters are slow and moody – but if you’re on the second book and not enjoying it, then it’s not for you.
You are not alone. I grew up on C.S. Lewis, Alan Garner and Ursula LeGuin. Still read quite a lot of fantasy novels. Big Joe Abercrombie fan.
Tried several times to read *The Hobbit.* Somehow, it never ‘clicks’ and I feel involved enough to stick with it. Tolkein just doesn’t do it for me. So many others enjoy. Not you and me. There it is.
I can’t get through this post without cringing. Plz send help now
