Looking for any fictional books about being trans that are gut-wrenching and depressing to the max. No happy ending is preferred but not required. It’d be nice if the MC was AMAB is middle-aged, married with kids and closeted. I need a good cry. I’m not squeamish in the slightest. The more depressing the better, hit me with your best shot.

*Bad Girls* by Camila Sosa Villada isn’t quite what you describe but is written by a trans woman and is all about her experiences. It’s heartbreaking.

    2. The MC is not middle-aged/with a family but **Las Malas** by Camila Sosa Villada is the most depressing trans book I’ve ever read. It’s part novel part memoir inspired by the author’s life as she escaped her rural town in argentina where she absolutely could not be out. Once in a bigger city she began working as a prostitute which is what most of the story focuses on, I especially loved how much attention the author gave to the fellow prostitutes and their individual experiences.

The book in general explores the theme of existing within the margins of society so well I repeatedly felt like I was being punched in the gut.

Anyway happy reading I guess lol

    3. Bad Habit by Alana S. Portero

if you’ve got the stomach for extreme horror, both of Alison Rumfitt’s books are incredibly bleak
