Do you mean TLOTR specifically or Tolkien’s works in general?
If you’re just reading TLOTR you should read them in order – 1) Fellowship, 2) Two Towers, 3) Return Of The King.
If you want to read all of Tolkien, The Hobbit is a good place to start and then follow it by TLOTR and after that The Silmarillion. It isn’t necessary to have read The Hobbit before TLOTR, but if you’re going to read both regardless then you should definitely do The Hobbit first.
