Looking for a page turner! I’d say I’m the biggest geek about grimy Victorian 1800s England but I’m open to any time period or topic.

The Five – Hallie Rubenhold – This book turned the Jack the Ripper story upside down for me. It reclaims the stories of the five women who were murdered in way more detail than I would have thought possible. At the same time it is a social history of working class London. Couldn’t drag my eyes away from the book.

The Ghost Map – Steven Johnson – This is a tense book about a mass murderer, Cholera. A scientist and a vicar team up to backtrack a Cholera epidemic, mapping it’s victims back to it’s point of outbreak. To prove once and for all how this disease spreads.

The Suspicions of Mr Whicher – Kate Summerscale – In the early days of Scotland Yard Mr Whicher is sent to investigate a troubling murder in a respectable middle class country house. Uncovering a tale so dark Victorians found it hard to believe. But was it the full story?

The Professor and the Madman – Simon Winchester – You wouldn’t think creating a dictionary would involve so much drama. But the twists and turns in the story of the creation of the Oxford English dictionary, is bonkers.
