Recently I’ve become interested in spy thrillers, and while thinking of what my next read should be – I realised that I would love a book that shared similar trappings to the story of Call of Duty Black Ops 1.
What I liked specifically about the story in the game was:
-
Cold War setting
-
The ‘adventure’ of jumping through Mason’s memories and places he visited, things he did; pieces of a puzzle coming together
-
The elements of mind control, Mason’s amnesia, the character twist revealed at the end of the story
-
The scale of the story geographically and temporally, spanning WW2, Cuba missile crisis, Vietnam, the USSR, all interlinked.
I know there are probably some well known titles from the likes of Clancy et al which might come close to the mark but I’m still a bit of a novice of the genre so aren’t familiar with what might be out there.
I’d love it if someone familiar with the CoD BO 1 source material has any recommendations for me!
