I've found quite a few recommendations in this sub about books that actually involve deicide, but only in the literal sense, as far as I can tell. I'm looking for books that feature the same concept, however as a thematic approach. "God" as an entity doesn't have to be featured, in fact, while I don't carry an aversion towards it, I would prefer it if no gods in the conventional, western way of thinking were actually present troughout the story.
What I am talking about are books in which the current order of things has become so widely accepted that you could regard it as "god". A character within the story thus has to have the ambition of putting and end to it, or overcome it, maybe replacing it with another god, or becoming the transitional god themself. While you could mistakenly dumb it down to, "The king is bad, I will overthrow him", this really isn't what I am looking for.
I am looking forward to your recommendations! 🙂
