I'm an avid reader, but seem to have a very hard time getting into novels. I like nonfiction, poetry, abstract, even short stories. But most novels, except Murakami, don't grip me. I don't know what it is. I haven't even read many of them, either. What I'd say is, they're fun to read, while simultaneously being deep, and not overly dramatic. Sometimes I feel like novels are just spinning a web of human drama, and dragging me down with them. So what is like that, but maybe natively in English (preferably). Something that's relatively recent, not a classic, would also be preferred. Do your best.
PS I like my own writing best
