I can't remember if it was a book or a play, but I'm pretty sure it was a play. From what I can remember, the son just wants to run away from home from his overbearing mother. The mother wants the daughter to be with someone but worries she won't because she's crippled. The son tries to hook the sister up with a co-worker. They dance and have a great time, but the co-worker breaks it to the crippled sister that he has a fiancee/wife. The mother gets angry at the son, they fight, and the son just about has it and walks out. There was something about the ending line being "turn off that light" or "blow out that candle" to the sister. If anybody knows what work I'm talking about, please let me know the title because I've been thinking about it and been meaning to go back to reading it.

I’m reasonably certain it’s The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.
