I like reading works that are both socially critical and existentialist—above all, books by writers who, in my view, see our world with unusual clarity or in a strikingly idiosyncratic way. Recently I have especially enjoyed the novels of Michel Houellebecq and Sally Rooney. I also admire authors such as Patricia Highsmith, José Saramago, and Ismail Kadare.

I’m looking forward to what others post here and will check out the authors you mentioned-any particular books by them?
I’m not sure if you will think this fits your category but I just finished ” my struggle” books 1-6 by Karl Ova Knausgaard, I think it might.
