I'm a little gun shy of self help, but my experiences with therapy have been bad so far and I'm flat out of disposable cash.
I'm interested in "Maybe you should talk to someone" so let's start there. Or not. Maybe there's fiction than works better.
I just read "Earthlings" and was thoroughly let down by the ending. It wasn't controversial or disgusting, it was just child-like and dumb.
The book that has effected me the most recently was "Stoner" by John Williams. It's a solemn read but I highly recommend it.
With actual self-help books, I'm just trying to avoid NPR or New York Times Best Seller stuff as I don't give a shit about that type of stuff.
Thanks in advance!

If you connected with Stoner, I highly recommend Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Books that most helped me with my PTSD:
PTSD Sourcebook by Glenn R. Schiraldi
Chatter by Ethan Kross
Overcoming Unwanted Intrusive Thoughts by Sarah M. Winston
Every Memory Deserves Respect by Deborah Korn (about EMDR therapy which I found the most effective)
Retrain Your Brain by Seth J. Gillihan
It Didn’t Start With You by Mark Wolynn
The Mindful Self Compassion Workbook by Kristin Neff
Resilience by Eric Greitens
You might like Something in the Woods Loves You, by Jarod Anderson.
The Body Keeps The Score. Then choose from all the references.
I didn’t care for maybe you should talk to someone that much. I preferred good morning monster for inspirational stories of patients overcoming trauma. Neither of those are self help, they’re more so stories of a therapist’s patients’ experiences.
Honestly though I think if you’re looking to overcome ptsd, your best bet is probably looking up nonfiction / educational books about that topic on Goodreads or Amazon and comparing the top few options that have the most reviews and seeing which one has reviews that resonate with you.
