I'm really craving a good Chosen One story so figured I could ask for some recommendations. I really enjoy a good "little guy from nowhere" being someone important or destined for greatness, going on a quest, and defeating evil. Series are the best but one and done books are good too

I don't really like romance at all so as little as possible would be great, as well as zero rape or sexual violence towards women. I specify since so many of the books that only treat women this way just feels like a kink of the authors and I've got no interest in participating in that
I'm not looking for sci fi or urban fantasy, and the story must have a happy ending, sometimes you just need a world where things end up alright

The Eragon series are my all time favourite so if you know of something that scratches that same itch for you I'd love to hear about it!
And, I know some people will probably be mad at me but I couldn't stand the Wheel of Time. The story was interesting but by the fifth book I couldn't take the way the author wrote and described the women anymore. I'm not looking to argue about it, I just wanted to say it in the hopes of getting literally any other recommendations lol

Thanks in advance for your time!

    1. The Riddle-Master of Hed and its trilogy by Patricia McKillip. Fun, immersive worldbuilding with wonderful and deeply written characters. Certainly features some well-written women.

Please please read the trustee from the tool room by nevil schute. It’s about a small and boring man who writes for a magazine about miniture mechanics, who has to go to the other side of the world with very little cash to see where his sister was shipwrecked and buried on a South Pacific island. He has hardly any money, and is more well thought of than he could ever imagined. It’s a magical book 😁

The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson offers a neat take on the “chosen one” trope. It has a lot of well-written, strong female characters (with none of the “braid tugging” of wheel of time), and focuses on mental health in ways that are at once refreshing and moving.

I won’t say more than that, simply for spoilers. But I will say that Sanderson’s books are LONG. I’ve met him a couple of times, and once had the opportunity to tell him, “We recommend The Way of Kings to friends all the time, but add ‘it takes 700 pages to really get going.'” He laughed and was only mildly offended.
