As a child and teenager I was a very avid reader but, like many people, as I grew older I found less and less time I could allocate to actually sit and enjoy a book. Now that I do have the time though, I'm finding it extremely difficult to know where to start.
I enjoy anything related to horror and am a very big fan of anthologies but I do enjoy mysteries and romance as well. I'm open to any suggestions really, I guess I'm just looking for something to grab my attention!
Edit: Idk how I could've forgotten but I'm a huge history nerd too, so I love a good period piece!

As Meat Loves Salt is a great history period piece. I love Tana French’s books which are police procedural with horror elements thrown in.
I just finished a good one, it’s called How To Sell a Haunted House. Creepy.
Horror: Stephen King – Salem’s Lot
Mystery: Agatha Christie – And Then There Were None
History: this is nonfiction, but reads like fiction at times. Erik Larson – The Devil in the White City. It deals with the Chicago’s World Fair in 1893 and a serial killer around the same time, though i was much more into the Expo
If a gay romance story (no sex onscreen, just their feelings for each other) set in 1934, with a horror aspect, sounds okay, consider *The Shabti* by Megaera C. Lorenz.
