I loved the drama and engineering aspects of Pillars of the Earth. Are there other similar historical fiction books that heavily draw from an engineering discipline?

I really liked the easy flow of the book and the engineering challenge of the cathedral being central to the plot.

I loved that the book truly explains what they are building, why they are building it and how they are building it. If there was a comparable book with e.g. shipbuilding, steam engine, mining or any civil engineering topic, I would be really delighted.

As a sidenote, I am aware of the other Ken Follett books and the Neil Stephenson books, which are in a way similar. If possible, I would like to gather more books like this.
