I have only ever not finished one book, The Good German. I stopped about 10 pages from the end as I just could not be bothered. I had forced myself to read it and simply didn't care! They then made a film out of it which I was shocked about as I thought it was terrible.
What makes you not finish a book or do you always carry on?

Absolutely! Life’s too short and there are too many books to force myself to read something I’m not enjoying! I’ll give it a while but if I see it’s just not clicking, I’ll set it down. Sometimes I come back to them and finish, but usually not.
Dune – 200 pages in or so and I was just over it.
The way that it spoiled what was going to happen in a chapter at the start of each chapter was so silly imo and really killed it for me. The new movies were great tho.
Constantly
All the time. Im not forcing myself if I’m not enjoying it. There’s no reason to
Yes, if it’s poorly written or predictable. The cost of my wasted time outweighs the cost of the book.
I could not finish the Dune saga. Halfway through book 5 I stopped. I can’t remember all of them, but if I’m not excited to read a book or it starts feeling like a chore, then I put it down
i havent finished it ends with us
I couldnt read it through honestly
It’s a fact of life, read what you like and don’t worry about not finishing something
Yep. The only book I actively chose to DNF was The Midnight Library, but there are probably hundreds of books that I’m technically “still reading” but never bothered to pick back up/renew my loan on because they weren’t grabbing me
Pale Fire by Nabokov. I absolutely love his writing style, I could never dream of producing prose like that. I absolutely hate the narrator though, I can’t get interested in his self aggrandizing back story
Many times: what is the point of continuing with a book that doesn’t engage you? There are too many books out there and just not enough time to read them – just concentrate on the ones that you do enjoy.
I think my record for stopping is 7 pages. It’s rare I DNF but I’m not opposed to it, too many books to waste my time with something I don’t enjoy
