I'm looking for some fiction summer reads, ideally no romance (or if there is romance, it's queer) and no fantasy/sci-fi. I want to feel like I'm sitting outside in my rocking chair, all sweaty and getting bit by mosquitos. Or I'm lounging on the beach in the French Riviera, waiting for my evil husband to come back with my mimosa.
Most of the books on my to-read list are "popular" fiction and I want to add some literary ones. Feel free to suggest classics!
Books with this vibe that I've read and enjoyed:
- The Beach by Alex Garland
- Bitter Orange by Claire Fuller
- Eight Months on Ghazzah Street by Hilary Mantel
- Antiquity by Hanna Johansson
- Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys
- The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith
- To Catch a Thief by David Dodge
- Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown
- The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
- Every book set in the summer or a warm location by Agatha Christie
Book with this vibe that are on my to-read list:
- Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman
- Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant
- Hot Milk by Deborah Levy
- Sea Wife by Amity Gaige
- The God of the Woods by Liz Moore
- All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby
