My sister (30) is my best friend in the world. She feels as if she is behind in life and has been living with avoidance at the forefront of her decisions. She also has been open about struggling with depression and anxiety.
She also has type 1 diabetes which she has neglected, and now is regularly in the ICU. This also seems like avoidance.
I believe that this has been a trigger for her alcoholism (which runs in the family)
Our family and friends have been trying to communicate with her, with much defensiveness and no success. I have read the Let Them Theory and am hoping for other book recommendations as to how we can better approach this.

It’s an article, but I wonder if you and/or your sister might like to use the Spoon Theory?
It’s an article by a woman with a chronic condition talking about how exhausting daily life is. It’s been useful for my friends and I because it’s easier for them to understand how/when I can’t do something. If part of the problem for your sister is that she’s been overwhelmed trying to live a full life or take care of herself, this might help her break down tasks that she could use help with or might not be necessary.

Oh I’m so sorry to hear this. You poor things.
The book that legit changed my life is The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.
And then…. What’s So Amazing About Grace?
By Philip Lancey.
Good luck
Ooops Philip Yancey. Sorry. Not Lancey!
