i just finished berlin by jason lutes and it completely blew me away. the way it blends history, politics, everyday life, and visual storytelling was incredibly powerful. i’m looking for other graphic novels that are either:
• set in a similar historical or political context
• deeply rooted in a real place or time
• focused on complex, grounded characters living through large-scale social or political change
• stylistically or formally ambitious (like the visual pacing, montage, or layout techniques lutes used)
i’d also be interested in stuff that captures a similar tone—melancholy, intellectual, reflective. fiction or nonfiction both welcome.
thanks in advance!
