I've never read a self-help book which wasn't full of gross simplifications and terrible writing. Some, like 48 Laws of Power, are genuinely disturbing and harmful. But I still see loads of new ones every year displayed in all bookstores. Are there any good ones?

*Atomic Habits* by James Clear remains a pillar of the genre.
*The Upside of Stress: Why Stress is Good for You, and How to Get Good at It* by Kelly McGonigal is a book that my sister who is a licensed psychologist and practicing marriage and family counselor absolutely swears by (not for her practice specifically, was just qualifying the suggestion lol).

you’re not supposed to take the 48 laws of power 100% literally, it’s like the art of war by sun tzu but if you want a recommendation: the productivity project by Chris Bailey is one of my favourites and one whose advice I use most often because it tells you what to do if you’re feeling procrastination towards a specific task, if you want something more about inner strength and don’t mind a story (and a lot of swearing) I loved: they can’t hurt me by David Goggins, every chapter or so Goggins lays out an actionable step in how to turn your life around.
