I think I’m done with romance books unless someone can prove me wrong. I used to call myself a hopeless romantic, but honestly, I’m starting to hate how most romance is written. I’ve read so many romance books this year, and they all feel the same. Insta-love, no chemistry, same tropes over and over: tall, dark, mysterious guy, quirky petite girl, fake banter, love triangles, miscommunication, pregnancy drama, and no actual story beyond the romance. It’s exhausting. I want books that are either fun and full of chaos and sarcasm (like You Deserve Each Other, Magnus Chase, Percy Jackson) or books that are beautifully written and emotionally deep (like Jane Eyre, Vicious by VE Schwab, I’ll Give You the Sun, or Aristotle and Dante). I like smart girls, green flag guys, found family, slow burns with real tension and connection, not just lust. Bonus points if the girl is in science or has depth and flaws I can relate to — like perfectionism, self-hate, and trying to be enough. I’m tired of reading 50 books that leave me feeling nothing. I want something that sticks with me. Some of my favorite books of all time are Jane Eyre, Percy Jackson, Magnus Chase, Pride and Prejudice, Vicious, I’ll Give You the Sun, Legend, and Aristotle and Dante. I don’t even care what genre it is anymore. I just want a book that either makes me laugh and enjoy the chaos or makes me feel deeply and wrecks me in a good way. So please, if you have anything that fits that, tell me. I need to find my love for reading again.
