Title: Book suggestion for understanding history and politics as a total beginner

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to get into history and politics, but I’m starting with pretty much zero background knowledge. I didn’t pay much attention to these subjects in school, but now I’m genuinely curious and want to learn the basics.

Can anyone recommend books that are good for absolute beginners? I’m looking for something that explains major historical events or political concepts in a clear and engaging way — ideally without assuming I already know a bunch of background info.

I’m open to any time period or region, and I’d love something that helps me understand how the world got to where it is today.
