Books with selfless and self destructive main characters?

I don’t really have any examples since I haven’t really read any books like this, but I am basically looking for books where the main character will always throw themselves in harms way to protect others with no regard for their own well being.

I’ve occasionally seen this trope described online as the “raised to be a shield” character.
