I'm looking for books about or with protagonists that are mentally ill. Like in 'a world without you' where the main character is suffering from delusions and depression. Not looking for Mary sue characters that manage to overcome all of this easily. Can be horror/thriller, can be fantasy, can be sci-fi, can be anything but romance or painfully obvious y/a (character is chosen, has to save the word something something obstacles, struggling a bit something something they have friends and win yay) I want them to struggle with themselves and with others. Can also be abstract ('don't let the forest in'-type) idc. Main theme is struggling.
The mental illness doesn't have to be the main topic of the book but something that definitely influences the character. The person also doesn't have to be the main character.
Looking forward to any recommendations! Just getting back into reading after a long deep low and haven't yet figured out how to look for exactly what I want.
