I have ADHD (with pretty severe symptoms) and have been struggling with clinical depression for a while. I completed reading Welcome to Hyunam-Dong Bookshop, and it gave me the spark of hope and relief. I want to read more books like that, fictional stories that can gently uplift.
I’m specifically looking for fiction, not self-help, because those haven’t worked for me. But if you’ve gone through something similar and found a self-help book that genuinely helped, feel free to share.
I’d love to read about ordinary people’s struggles, their way of looking at life, what they go through, how they cope, survive, and eventually find happiness. Books like I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki and Before the Coffee Gets Cold are already on my list.
I don't want to read books like No Longer Human by Dazai. It’s too pessimistic and hopeless, and it only makes me feel worse.
I hope I’ve managed to explain what kind of book I’m looking for. Any suggestions would really mean a lot.
