I have been suffering from anxiety-induced insomnia since I don't remember when. Listening to music and meditating don't help me sleep, but I've found audiobooks work quite well. However, I can't seem to find anything I want to listen to. Help pls?

Listens I've enjoyed in the past:

    • The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien)
    • The Chronicles of Narnia (C.S. Lewis)
    • Howl's Moving Castle (Diana Wynn Jones)
    • The Last Unicorn (Peter S. Beagle)
    • Tailchaser's Song (Tad Williams)
    • Kiki's Delivery Service (Eiko Kadono)
    • Mythology and fairy tales are always favorites

Listens I tried, but ended up falling asleep and losing my place

    • Dracula (Bram Stoker)
    • The Earthsea series (Ursula K. Le Guin)
    • The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern)
    • Watership Down (Richard Adams; it's hard to parse rabbit language when you're half-conscious)
    • The Color of Magic (Terry Pratchett; might return to this one sometime)

    1. My favorite author for getting to sleep is H. P. Lovecraft. I’d try The Shadow over Innsmouth and At the Mountains of Madness.

John Lee is a great narrator for getting to sleep, and he’s narrated hundreds of books.

      – The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame

      – The Once and Future King by T.H. White

    3. You want something that’s interesting to get your mind of things but not something with a plot where you worry about losing your place.

My favorite is “A Short History of Nearly Everything” by Bill Bryson. I have listened to it countless times.
