I finished Can’t Run, Can’t Hide by Yrsa Sigurdardottir tonight and I’m curious to hear other people’s thoughts. Online reviews are a little scarce for this one.
I’m a massive fan of Yrsa. I love her writing style, the way she portrays fear is so realistic and it makes you feel like you too — just like the characters in her book — are in danger. I could go on and on all day about why I love her stories so I’ll stop there. But that sense of impending doom and darkness was great in this book! The atmosphere and tone was bleak.
This is NOT a spoiler but I went into this book a little worried as we find out very early on who dies. The book is a matter of solving the who and why which is different from her other stories. I ended up loving this set up because as the story went on and the threat is clearly closing in on the victims I kept holding out hope that they’d somehow survive, only to be reminded of their fate. It made for a suspenseful and creepy read.
If you’ve read Can’t Run, Can’t Hide — what did you think? Particularly of the killers motivation? I’m still wrapping my head around that part.
I’m excited for the second in the series.
