Olive Kittredge by Elizabeth Strout is amazing. The book is best but even the TV show blew me away.

*The Thursday Murder Club* by Richard Osman is great like that! A team of elders living in a retirement facility solve murders. The two women are a retired spy and a retired nurse, and they’re a bit like Esme Weatherwax and Gytha Ogg, in that the spy is super smart no bullshit but struggles a bit with intimacy, and the nurse is soft and sweet but deceptively sharp and courageous. And the whole book is fun.

Kat Leyh’s graphic novel Snapdragon is awesome! Girl becomes friends with a tough old no-nonsense dame who is an actual witch, who turns out to have some surprising connections to the girl’s family. It’s an absolute delight.

I assume you’ve read Howls Moving Castle, yes?
I wish Steel Magnolias was a book and not a play.
