I like folklore and fantasy, set in a historical time period or modern world. Basically, any story that deals with ghosts, monsters, gods, demons and maybe some people affiliated with a religion that interact with them as a way to protect other people.

Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott, maybe – it’s about Baba Yaga’s house and two rival siblings (the sibling dynamic gets a bit annoying at times but it’s good overall) running from a monster through the United States. For monsters/fantasy horror with a large religion theme, I’d suggest Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White. For folklore fantasy with large theme of religion and gods and power, definitely check out Black Sun and the Between Earth and Sky series by Rebecca Roanhorse. Leigh Bardugo’s books are definitely very folklore inspired, with lots of monsters and demon-type discussions and religion-esq themes, too. I’m currently reading John the Balladeer and really really loving it, so if you want southern appalachain folklore and vibes, would highly recommend that.
