I’m looking for any novels that have queer main characters but the focus of the novel is not on them finding love (so no novels where the plot is strictly romance – that can certainly be a facet but not the primary focus) nor their experiences with being queer. Basically, I want stories in which queerness is incredibly normalized. I also don’t want to read any children’s lit, middle grade, or YA right now.
I’ve read Monstrilio and really enjoyed it. That one has a lot of “casual queerness.” I also loved Dark Matter by Michelle Paver.
I also tend to like books where there’s a level of isolation, especially in a historical time period – settings in the arctic/polar region or in wilderness settings (Wild West, Australia, the Great Plains, etc.).
