Thanks so much for any suggestions. I’d love to read an immersive book in which the main character has a run of terrible luck. I love fantasy, general fiction, and sci fi. Looking for something relatable to feel a bit better about my own endless series of unfortunate events and loneliness. Cheers 🙂

‘Pharmakides’ by Alice Abyss follows Medousa as she navigates a world seemingly set out to hurt her. It leaves the reader wondering why it seems unlucky stars are shining upon her.
I think you’d like the first law series by Joe Abercrombie. There’s a variety of main characters who all deal with bad luck relative to the positions they hold within the world. I think you’ll really like glokta and Logen in particular. It is funny, grim, and incredibly written.

I’d recommend almost anything by Annie Proulx – awful things happen all the time to her characters, whether they are good people or bad.
I think you’d like Accordion Crimes, which has a dash of fantasy in that the accordion of the title – owned by various unlucky people in the book – seems to be cursed and bring down doom on its owners. For someone wanting an immersive read, Proulx is always good – and for unrelenting, bleak bad luck – this book checks all the boxes. ‘Enjoy’ ??
