I want to learn about and read about the history behind art history culture. Museum curation, private collection, how the art world became Like That, maybe crime since a lot of crime happens on both the forgery/theft and money laundering levels. Anything with a focus on the development of the scene that isn't about making art but is about talking about art (i.e. maybe late 1800/early 1900s? A friend suggested that the Victorian cabinet of curiostities might be the earliest example of the kind of private curation I'm curious about).
It's impossible to find this via normal channels since you get so many books about the history of art. I want the more meta version.
