My 6 year old is an avid reader. She loves the magic tree house series and Anne of Green Gables (though I read that one to her), Bluey, Princess 5 minute Stories, Star Wars 5 minute stories, etc.
We recently tried both the Ivy and Bean series and the Junie B. Jones series and she didn’t like either of them. She told me the children did bad things and she didn’t like it and we needed to send them back haha. The two chapters I made it through of Ivy and Bean had me agreeing with her! I’m struggling to find stories that are fun and engaging without awful behavior.
Any suggestions??

The Melendey Quartet by Elizabeth Enright
The Secret Garden
A Little Princess
The Mouse and the Motorcycle
When I was seven I read Rasmus and the vagabond and it was my favorite. By Astrid Lindgren Ronja and Mio my son are also good
My 7 year old likes The Owl Diaries and the Lilly to the Rescue series.
I was that age when I got into the American Girl books!
I also loved the magic tree house books! she might be interested in A to Z mysteries or the boxcar children. Those are mystery series like the magic tree house books!
*Zoe and Sassafras*
*Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie*
Maybe *Mia Mayhem*? She gets in a lot of trouble but it’s largely of the “not thinking things through” type rather than actively hurtful.
Maybe *Harriet the Invincible*?
Maybe *Jojo Makoons*? She breaks the rules but it’s things, like, sneaking her cat into school.
*Dealing With Dragons?* The main character breaks the rules, but it’s things like, learning politics and cooking, or running away from a forced engagement to work for a dragon.
Socks, by Beverly Cleary (about a cat)
Really most of her books are good – Ramona isn’t the best behaved child, but Cleary does a great job of writing from Ramona’s perspective
The early Betsy-Tacy books when the girls are young
All of a Kind Family – at least the first 3 books
A Cricket in Times Square
Charlotte’s Web
Maybe Encyclopedia Brown or Nate the Great if she wants to try mysteries 🙂
