As the title suggests, I'm trying to read Marcus aurelius's meditations.
At risk of turning this into a sob story, my entire year has just been one big book of Job. Everything and one that I have known, loved or dreamed of achieving has either died, been taken from me, disowned by me or will need to be dealt with socially and via court battles.
Needless to say, it's been rough and I'm really looking for some inspiration. I've been looking for books about people that have been given insurmountable challenges and refused to give up. Preferably someone who's had those challenges thrust upon them after losing a parent. I was hoping there would be a good autobiography by Hannibal Barca or Abraham Lincoln.
I've settled on the meditations but I can't get more than an hour into it. I get that most versions are just translating directly but those translations are just too outdated and clunky to be digestible in a long format reading structure for me.
If anyone has any recommendations for a updated translation of meditations or any similar book. I would be appreciative.

I’ve always stuck with the Penguin Classics version. If it helps, the Meditations aren’t meant to be read like a novel. It’s a combination of diary and ideas to ponder, and you’re better off getting a good old-fashioned bookmark and taking it one bite-sized portion per day while you read something else for fun on the side.
But as for a easier translation, I believe there are a couple of modern versions. One by Gregory Hays (which in Amazon UK is oddly filed under Occult Spiritualism!), and the other by Stan Edwards. No idea how good they are, though. Sorry!
