My 11 yo son will be doing book reports this coming school year and can pick his own books to read. He loves the level readers like Pete the Cat but gets bored with the longer chapter books.
I have bookcases full of Harry Potter, etc. that I own. He isn't quite ready yet.
Any thoughts?

Dragon Masters, Magic Tree House, Eerie Elementary, My Neighbor is an Alien, Captain Underpants
Try:
1. Alvin Ho books by Lenore Look
2. Slacker by Gordon Korman (or anything by this author)
Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan.
Does he have a required reading level? If he does I’d take a look at the scholastic books website for books aimed at his grade level. When I was around his age I really enjoyed Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli, How to Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell (potentially too easy), Holes by Louis Sachar, and Bridge to Terebithia by Katherine Paterson. The last title was a huge comfort to me. A classmate passed away that school year and my teacher had the entire class abandon The Hobbit partway through in favour of Terebithia. That teacher also accepted feeling reports in lieu of book reports for a few weeks afterwards so we could write about our classmate and our feelings if we needed too. Pretty sure we still had to follow the paragraph and and page requirements though.
